For our 23rd wedding anniversary this year, we decided to go to El Dorado Maroma resort in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico.

It was our first time at this particular resort and we were excited to go because it is smaller, and we were told the beach was spectacular.
Saturday
We arrived on our actual wedding anniversary. It was kind of funny because the staff seemed to think 23 years of marriage was a really impressive. We arrived to our room, dropped off our luggage and went directly to the restaurant for a late lunch. We hadn’t eaten since breakfast and it was now 2:30 pm Mexico time. For lunch we had margaritas (of course!) and I had beef tacos and Stephen had the Maroma chicken. And then we spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach!

That night we went to Lima Lemon which is a Peruvian style restaurant. The star dish of the night was the charcoal grilled vegetables. So delicious!

When we got back to our room that night our turn down services left rose petals in the shape of a heart on the bed.

Sunday:
We had breakfast delivered to our room this morning which we ate on our deck. Nothing like a fresh fruit platter straight from where it was grown!

We’re pretty consistently beach over pool people. So we chose our Bali bed on the beach and decided to go for a walk. The beach here is absolutely incredible! It is so beautiful here, the sand is soft and we always felt safe.

This evening we dined at the Italian restaurant and then watched the fire show on the beach

Monday – Friday:
Pretty much the rest of the trip went as follows:
Wakeup at 6:30 and go to the gym for an hour. Shower and go to breakfast. Find our beach Bali bed and drop off our stuff and go for a walk. Come back to the Bali bed and read until lunch. Go for lunch and then have a nap. By 3pm or so, we’d have a cocktail. Read some more. Go back to room and clean up for dinner. Go to dinner. Walk around resort post dinner. Then be in bed by 9m. It was relaxing. Quiet. Peaceful.

We had a candlelight beach dinner on one of the evenings

On one evening we had our membership dinner with fellow members (we are a Prestige Travelers Member).
There was also a Mexican Fiesta night and a sushi night

Overall I’d say this resort was totally made for our style of sun vacation. It’s small, quiet, beautiful beach and good food.
