Crabbe Mountain Ski Weekend

Crabbe Mountain Ski Weekend

Friday, March 13

All week long it’s been raining and freezing rain, so we were very surprised to wake up and see snow on the ground.  It snowed a bunch over night!  Which is great news since we’re headed to Crabbe for a family ski weekend!  A family ski weekend that also includes Jordie!

Stephen and Macy worked for most of the morning from home and then we left around 11 am and stopped in Moncton to check out Dominion Tile.  We wanted to take advantage of being over there and look at floor tile for the kitchen reno.  Then we stopped for a quick chicken shawarma bowl from Mezza (eaten in the truck because Jordie gets too anxious if we left him alone in the vehicle) and then we kept on trucking.

The closer we got to Fredericton though, the less snow there was. In fact the homes we passed just after Fredericton had yards and driveways covered in ice.  It looked like skating rinks…and there was no snow to be seen. FRIGGGGG

We arrived at our chalet just after 5pm, with Macy and Hayden pulling in right behind us and Makena and Ethan arriving 10 minutes or so after us.  The driveway and yard was pure ice, which made unloading the vehicles extra fun lol

The chalet is really nice and has thought of (almost) every amenity, including dog bowls and poop bags!

After we all got settled in and unpacked we got supper on the go.  I made a buffalo chicken dip the day before which just had to be reheated and then we had a veggie tray and some bagged salad which made for a quick and easy dinner.  I found the buffalo chicken dip on Instagram and it had a cocktail pairing called the Versace Slipper (I’m not sure why but I mistakenly called it the Skanky Lizzie, so that’s what we ended up calling it for the rest of the trip).  There wasn’t any shot glasses at the chalet (weird) so I had to eyeball it…which was a bit hit or miss for each cocktail lol.  But the actual recipe was 2 oz bourbon (I used whiskey) ½ oz coffee liqueur and ½ oz creme de banana (I used banana liqueur because our liquor store didn’t have any creme de banana).  There also were no ice cube trays in the chalet so …it really wasn’t the best cocktail.

After dinner and a quick kitchen clean up we put on some St Martin videos on Youtube since that is our next family vacation in April.

Then we called it a night because we hopefully will be going skiing in the morning!

Saturday, March 14

We all woke up from very shitty sleeps (we blamed 90% on the coffee cocktails and 10% on Jordie clip clopping on the floors as he roamed all night).  Macy and Hayden definitely had the worst of it since they lost out on spinning wheel decider of who got the 2nd bedroom and ended up on the pull out sofa, with Jordie bouncing on them every 15 minutes.

But the good news is, it snowed overnight and was still snowing this morning so it looks like a good ski day after all!

We had our eggs and bacon breakfast and then geared up for skiing.  The chalet is minutes from the ski hill, so we arrived just after opening at 9 am.  The parking lot and well everywhere is so tricky to walk on because it was pure ice under fluffy snow.  So everyone was slipping and sliding.  I think everyone of us fell at some point just walking to and from the vehicle to the lodge!

We had a great morning skiing.  Only a few of the trails were open but it was enough for us to have fun.

We decided to drive back to the chalet for lunch.  We made grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.  Makena, Ethan and I decided not to go back skiing for the afternoon and opted for a cozy afternoon on the sofa with hot chocolates and our books.  But the die-hards: Stephen, Macy and Hayden went back to ski until about 4 pm and then went to the base lodge for apres at the bar.

After they got back we had a nice long hot tub and then we got cleaned up and ready for dinner.

Tonight’s dinner was supposed to be a cacio e pepe pasta (but it didn’t turn out) so I had brought some store bought pesto as a back up plan. Thank goodness for that! And we had a caesar salad and garlic bread.

After dinner we had a marshmallow golf challenge.  We were in pairs and you had to try and get the marshmallow in your partners mouth.  Lol  no surprise that Macy and Hayden were the best at that one!

Sunday, March 15

It was a bluebird day and it would have been a perfect ski day but we decided not to try and squeeze in skiing and instead just enjoyed a slow breakfast and packed up without rushing.  Macy and Hayden left just after 9 am as they were headed to Montreal for a few days.  And we left at the same time as Makena and Ethan at around 10:30.

We had a great drive back until the stretch between Port Elgin and the Bridge, when a large deer jumped out of the ditch and was struck by the truck in front of us.  We were shocked at the impact and witnessing the poor deer’s life come to an end like that.  The front end of the truck was destroyed but everyone was ok.

We arrived home around 2:30 which was nice to have time to unpack, pick up food for dinner and feel ready for the week ahead.
